If you have your website hooked up to Google Search Console(which you definitely should have) then you might be running into some errors. With Search Console it crawls your website to make sure all best practices are being met and then from what they uncover they then add it to their search algorithm. When you receive any errors this will count negatively against your rankings for Google.
One of these errors is “Clickable elements too close together”. While google does let you know the error, they do a horrible job of letting you know where the error is and how to fix it.
According to web.dev they say you should have your clickable elements to be at least 48px wide and tall with a space of at least 8px. This is to take into account of the size of a person’s finger pad.
